Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my blog for Art F200X, my name is Amanda. I currently reside in Salt Lake City, Utah where I was born and raised. I am a junior studying fisheries and marine sciences, I choose this degree because being outside and around water makes me happy. Presently, I work for the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, a skill that I learned while I was in the Army.

When it comes to my relationship with art, I would say it has been constant, it has just manifested itself in different ways throughout my life. When I was a girl I loved to draw. When I got into middle school, I took to writing poetry. In high school I discovered pastels, charcoal, and photography. As an adult my main artistic expression is through photography and baking. I enjoy taking pictures on my hikes. I have also recently taken up the art of bread making, particularly sour dough.

My dad and me in front of the Palace of Versailles, 2000
The summer between my freshman and sophomore year I took a trip to Europe with my dad. Six countries in 21 days. It was hectic but life changing. The Palace of Versailles was definitely one of the many artistic highlights of the trip. I have loved history since the eighth grade and to see something like this in person, to walk the halls of history, instilled in me an even greater love of history and art. This trip sparked my curiosity in architecture and led me to take a drafting class my sophomore year. To find out more about the Palace of Versailles, click here.

  1. I had such a great time visiting Salt Lake City in 2019. I performed at Abravanel Hall with the Fairbanks Flutes. So glad you got to Versailles. I hope to take my husband there some time. I went when I was a teenager when I was touring Europe. You can do your Baroque era blog on Versailles if you'd like.
